z. Child Sexual Exploitation: Advanced Level - CSE, Trauma & Developing Knowledge & Skills for Practice

Target Group: Level 4/Health 4

This course is targeted to professionals who work directly with or supervise those, who work directly with sexually exploited children and young people (for example social care, police, education, health, and specialist voluntary sector workers).

Please note, you must have completed the Level 3 training programme in the past 2 years before attending this course.

Aim:

This one day course offers the opportunity to explore how developments in neuroscience and developmental trauma can further develop their knowledge and understanding of CSE and inform practice.  Topics which will be covered will include brain development, attachment and trauma models as well as frameworks which utilise these principles to work alongside sexuality exploited children and young people.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this one day training, participants will be able to:

• Identify recent developments in neuroscience and describe how these can further inform our understandings of CSE
• Understand how reflecting on attachment styles can inform practice when working alongside sexually exploited children and young people
• Describe trauma responses and how these can further inform our understandings of CSE
• Reflect on frameworks / models of intervention which can help us engage more effectively with sexually exploited children and young people
• Have an increased confidence in applying knowledge gained and practical skills developed to direct work with sexually exploited children and young people and / or apply learning gained to inform supervision

Please note that before attending this L4 course, all participants must be able to (as covered in the L3 training programme):-

• Demonstrate their understanding 'Child Sexual Exploitation' as a child protection issue
• Identify the indicators and risk factors that create vulnerability and can lead children and young people into sexual exploitation
• Reflect on the grooming process - how perpetrators target young people and how the young person sees the relationship
• Have an understanding of relevant legislation, policy and procedures and know what to do if concerns arise
• Have increased confidence in practice and demonstrate how to use a variety of practical tools in direct work with a child or young person at risk
