Outline

This course has been revised to reflect new ways of practice for safeguarding professionals working with children, young people and their families affected by parents who misuse substances.

 Target Group –

Multi-agency safeguarding professionals working with vulnerable young people and their families. This is a practical course around developing skills and is suitable for social workers, teachers, drug and alcohol workers, family support workers and practitioners interested in developing skills related to supporting families where substance misuse is an issue.  

 Aim

To provide delegates with the communication skills and practical strategies to effectively support families where substance misuse is an issue.

 Learning Outcome

  • To introduce key information about the impact of substance misuse on children and families
    • To provide the skills to identify risk and assess the impact of harm
    • To provide practical skills to effectively support families affected by substance misuse
    • To know how to have an effective conversation with a child affected by substance use
    • To know how to have an effective conversation with a parent
    • Making effective referrals
    • Creating an action plan using practical case studies and identify ways to improve family focussed working at your service
