This is a NEW course and training provider. Only book this course if you have attended Module 1 - otherwise, you will be asked to leave and rebook.
Target Audience: Level 4/Health 4
All health and social care professionals who work with families on an ongoing basis to support their safety and wellbeing.
This advanced training provides an in-depth analysis of the complexities of domestic violence and abuse, and how perpetrators misuse power and control, including post separation abuse.
The training encourages existing best practice in the West Midlands region, and will improve the ability to recognise, respond, and to enhance skills and confidence in working with victims to safeguard them and their children.
Aims & Learning Outcomes:
- Recognise lessons learnt from Domestic Homicide Reviews & National and Local Child Safeguarding practice reviews.
- Develop an enhanced understanding of domestic violence and abuse, which includes controlling and coercive behaviour, and increasing understanding of post separation abuse and perpetrators’ manipulation of systems.
- Identify language used which potentially minimises domestic violence and abuse, place the blame on victims, and leave perpetrators invisible.
- Demonstrate how language in conversations with victims and in documentation, can impact negatively on victims and their children to enhance partnership work, and enable victims to engage with services, when working towards safeguarding.
- Improve effective multi-agency working through risk identification, good practice when undertaking risk identification, and following referral pathways including DASH assessments.
- Increase working knowledge of support services, and referral pathways that can help to support victims subject to domestic violence & abuse.
Virtual Courses will take place via Microsoft Teams and - to a lesser extent – Zoom.
- Please read the course information, confirmations and any follow up emails carefully during and after your booking process, and follow the instructions for receiving or locating the link to the course.
- If your organisation allows it, Microsoft Teams should be downloaded on your device and you should know how to use it prior to training.
- For staff who cannot download Zoom (e.g Birmingham Children’s Trust Staff), it will not be necessary to download the Zoom program in order to attend the virtual session.”
Virtual courses have been re-designed from their usual face to face format, and so some alterations such as the requirement to complete pre-course work (in some instances) are in place for you.
When joining a Zoom call:
- Join the call using a browser (internet explorer or Edge) – you must not download the Zoom software
- You must not transfer information to the group on the call (such as files etc.) via Zoom.
- If this is a new partner you are working with you may need to consider if attendees are required to complete a confidentiality agreement (this is separate from the use of Zoom etc.)
It is very important that if you book a place but later cannot attend that you cancel your place at least 5 days before the event date. This will enable the place to be offered to delegates on the waiting list and will avoid any non attendance charges being made to your organisation. Cancellation requests outside of 5 days should be emailed to bscp.contactus@birminghamchildrenstrust.co.uk;
