GCP2 is an evidence-based assessment tool developed by the NSPCC. It can help practitioners to measure the care provided to children, assess whether they are at risk of neglect and support families to make positive changes.
Pre-training requirements
Delegates will need to complete the Introduction to Neglect e-learning prior to attending GCP2 training. This course should take around 45-60 minutes to complete and can be accessed by copying and pasting this link into your browser. eLearning : Neglect-Foundations-e-Learning (lscpbirmingham.org.uk) or by going to the eLearning section in 'Your history & bookings'
Delegates must download the course resources and print (or be able to access via a device if preferred for online training) for use on the training day. The resources are licensed so must not be shared with anyone who has not completed GCP2 training.

Course Aim
Completion of the course will enable practitioners to be licensed to use the NSPCC Graded Care Profile 2 (GCP2) as part of their practice with children and families.
Target Group
Professionals and volunteers from all agencies working directly with children, young people, and their families. To include (but not limited to) Health professionals, Education staff, Social Workers, Family Support Workers and Early Years workers. Those who supervise practitioners are also encouraged to attend.
Learning Objectives
- To gain a more in-depth understanding of the impact of neglect on children
- To be able to identify where a child is experiencing, or at risk of, neglect
- To be able to measure the quality of care being provided to the children you work with
- To plan targeted interventions where families need extra support to address neglect
